Founded in 1819
Founded in 1819 in the market town of Kendal, Farrer’s is one of the UK’s longest-standing tea and coffee merchants. What began as a small shop roasting and blending on Stricklandgate grew up alongside the town itself, serving locals, traders and travellers passing through the Lake District. For more than two centuries, the aroma of Farrer’s coffee has been part of daily life in Kendal, with original recipes – including some of our best-loved blends – handed down through generations, refined but never rushed. That long history of careful roasting and blending is still the foundation of everything we do today.

Farrer's Today
Today we carefully source our coffees and teas from trusted partners around the world, then roast in considered batches at our Lake District roastery to bring out the character of each origin. We pack quickly to lock in freshness from Kendal to your cup, whether you’re brewing at home or serving a busy coffee bar. You’ll find Farrer’s being poured in independent cafés, hotels, restaurants and farm shops, as well as brewed in kitchens across the UK by people who value consistency, quality and a touch of Lakeland heritage in their daily brew. Whether you’re discovering us for the first time or have been drinking Farrer’s for years, our aim is simple: honest, consistently good tea and coffee, shaped by over 200 years of craft.

Very few roasters can say they’ve been roasting in the same town since 1819. Our history in Kendal runs alongside the story of the Lake District itself, and many of our much-loved blends have been refined over generations. Today we combine that heritage with careful sourcing, considered roasting and modern quality control, so whether you’re a local in Cumbria or a café hundreds of miles away, you get the same reliable cup – with a little bit of Lakeland in every brew.
We roast in small, regular batches at our Kendal roastery and pack shortly after roasting to lock in flavour. Most orders are dispatched within a few days of roasting, so whether you’re a trade customer or buying for home, your coffee arrives fresh and ready to serve at its best.
