We’re pleased to say that we are lending our support to one of the leading farming charities, the Addington Fund, at this year’s Westmorland County Show on Thursday 12th September.
We’ve joined forces to host their annual fundraising breakfast and refreshment stand at the show. The bacon or sausage butty breakfast kicks off at 8am and is served until 10am, providing a great opportunity for people to mingle and network before the show gets underway.
There’s no charge for the meal, but guests are asked to make a donation to the fund. Throughout the day Addington Chief Executive Bill Young and Marketing & Events Manager, Annie Winn will be on hand to chat about the charity’s work.
The team from Killington Marquees and Tepees will also be on hand to serve up tea and coffee to help raise vital funds for a number of initiatives including projects designed to help provide accommodation for local people working in the rural economy.
Projects like the conversion of two previously redundant barns, near Crosthwaite, Kendal, which thanks to the efforts of the charity have now been converted into two affordable homes.
The ARC-Addington Fund as it was originally known, was set up as the church’s response to the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001, to distribute grants to help farmers in England and Wales recover and get back on their feet in the aftermath of the disaster.
The farming charity, now known simply as the Addington Fund, to this day provides famers with support during times of disaster. However, its main focus now is to provide housing support for farming families who have had to leave their farms and through no fault of their own, have lost their homes as a result.
Addington Fund Chief Executive Bill Young, said: ‘’Our fundraising breakfast events help us to raise funds and increase awareness of the work we do and it’s also a really good social occasion with everyone who takes part having a really good time and we couldn’t host them without the generous support of local businesses like Farrer’s and the local community.”
